WOULD YOU EAT IT | FROZEN AND PACKAGED FOODS ... AS RESTAURANTS?

would you eat it?  which of your favorite frozen foods should become a restaurant?

Eater.com recently highlighted an interesting trend in the industry - leveraging the brand equity behind some high-performing consumer packaged goods to launch quick-service or fast-casual restaurant chains.

One such example is Amy's, purveyor of all things organic, vegetarian and downright delicious (for frozen food, anyway).  Amy's recently opened Amy's Drive Thru.  So when you're known for frozen goodness - and that's arguably a low bar already - how do you survive in a competitive marketplace where fresh is the new norm?  The mission statement for this first unit is in line with the brand's frozen line:

Amy’s Drive Thru is returning to the roots of American fast food, serving lovingly handcrafted food to nourish hard-working citizens, busy families and road-weary travellers.

Other brands like Chobiani and Nescafe may have it easier - the stores become an extension of the marketing effort of the brand, introducing customers to new ways to use the product, test new flavors and create brand awareness:
